Treasure Coast has not been measured in any published laboratory study that we could find. Dutch-Smart describes it as a cultivar with "above-average potency" that is "known as relatively potent". Measurements of other cubensis cultivars give a range of roughly 0.9 to 1.4 percent psilocybin plus psilocin by dry weight, and differences between mushrooms, flushes and storage are often larger than differences between cultivar names.
What the shop says
Dutch-Smart's kit text is the clearest statement about Treasure Coast's strength: the cultivar is "known for its fast growth and above-average potency", its caps "bruise strongly blue when damaged, indicating an above-average psilocybin content", and "the strain is known as relatively potent". For that reason the shop advises caution with freshly harvested Treasure Coast, adding that fresh mushrooms also differ in moisture between harvests.
That is the shop's experience with its own cultures. It is the most specific information available for this cultivar.
What has been measured for cubensis
The best comparison comes from a 2024 study that measured five cultivars with one method, three whole mushrooms each, by liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (Goff et al., 2024). Treasure Coast was not among them.
| Cultivar | Psilocybin plus psilocin, % of dry weight |
|---|---|
| Creeper | 1.36 |
| Blue Meanie | 1.22 |
| B+ | 1.13 |
| Texas Yellow | 1.10 |
| Thai | 0.88 |
Three mushrooms per cultivar is a small sample. The study is useful for the spread: about one and a half times between the strongest and the weakest of five common cultivars. A scientist at Hyphae Labs, a US testing lab, told DoubleBlind that across all cubensis samples in his database some are about ten times stronger than others, and that the average falls between about five and seven milligrams per gram (DoubleBlind). That is a statement about cubensis in general, from one lab's data, not a measurement of Treasure Coast.
Why one name does not give one number
Several things change the content of a mushroom more than its label does:
- Part of the mushroom. In a Czech study the stems held roughly half the tryptamine content of the caps (Gotvaldová et al., 2021).
- Storage. The same study found the least breakdown in dried mushrooms kept dark at room temperature, and the most in fresh mushrooms frozen at minus 80 °C.
- The individual mushroom. Content per fruit body was "highly variable" even within one grow.
- The culture behind the name. Cultivars with the same name can differ genetically between suppliers (Kurzbaum et al., 2025). The genes that make psilocybin are identical across most cultivars, so growing conditions and expression probably matter as much as the name (McTaggart et al., 2023).
Blue bruising shows that psilocybin and psilocin are present; it does not give an amount. The recognising page explains the chemistry.
What grower reports say
Reports on Treasure Coast run from "mild and mellow" to "very potent", DoubleBlind found, and the cultivar is regarded as average in parts of the online community. Some strain guides claim it reaches double the strength of an average cubensis; they cite no lab result for that. Taken together, the honest summary is that the shop and many growers consider it a strong cultivar, and that the size of the difference is not measured.
The open questions
| Question | Status on 16 October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Psilocybin content of Treasure Coast | no published measurement found |
| Difference to Golden Teacher or B+ | not measured in one study |
| Content of the albino or leucistic lines | not measured |
| Difference between flushes for this cultivar | not measured |
If a laboratory publishes figures for Treasure Coast, this page will be updated with them.
Effects and safety, briefly
Effects of cubensis are the effects of psilocybin. The Trimbos Institute, the Dutch national institute on drugs, describes onset after 20 to 60 minutes, changes in perception such as visual effects and more intense sound and music, altered thinking, relaxed muscles and large pupils, and sometimes headache or nausea (Trimbos, drugsinfo.nl). How it goes depends on the amount, on the person and on the setting.
Some points matter regardless of cultivar:
- Sensitivity to psychosis. Trimbos warns that people who are susceptible can become psychotic after use, and advises against use for anyone who is not feeling well mentally.
- Lithium combined with psychedelics was followed by a seizure in 47 percent of 62 reports in one analysis (Nayak et al., 2021).
- Have a sober sitter, a calm place and no plans to drive. Driving after use is an offence in the Netherlands.
- Questions can go to the Dutch Drugs Infolijn of the Trimbos Institute, 0900 1995.
The mushrooms are illegal in the Netherlands and most other countries; see the law page. This site gives no dosage instructions.
